at the Mulgrave Country Club AGM on June 17, 2010

KEN WAYMOUTH: AWARDED LIFE MEMBERSHIP

Congratulations to Ken Waymouth for receiving life membership for his exceptional service and contribution to the squash section, starting in 1976 and spanning for 22 years. As well as playing pennant squash, Ken was resident of Mulgrave CC from 1998 to 2001, treasurer, committee man, arranged Sportsmen’s breakfasts and sponsorships - just to list a few of his achievements and contributions to the advancement of the Club.

VICTORIAN MASTERS SQUASH CHAMPIONSHIP

The weekend of the 16th to the 18th April saw 6 Mulgrave Masters venture to Gladstone Park to play in the Victorian Masters Squash State Championships which saw competitors play in their age group. Charmaine Williams, Tashia Mihail and Belinda Murphy competed in the Womens 50-54 Open, with Charmaine Williams bringing home a silver medal after losing a hard fought battle against the gold medalist.

Bob Vezina competed in the Mens 50-54 Open, Tom Slattery and Ted Vale played in the Mens 65-69 Open.
Ted and Tom played for the gold and silver medal with Ted winning 3/1 to take the gold.

Congratulations to Ted for taking gold the second year running– let’s see if Ted can take a hat-trick next year.
Club Championships.

Best of luck to all players for the new season. Mulgrave has submitted 11 teams in Club Circuit, 8 teams in Masters and 5 Teams in Ladies. The juniors will have 1 side in Division 1 and 2 sides in Division 3. Once again many thanks to Denis Jeffery who is coaching our juniors both on Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons. Please contact Denis if you are a junior or a senior who wishes to have coaching lessons to improve your game.


2009/10 ROUND UP:

During seasons, John Newsom once again organized another successful "summer competition" with teams having names after wines/ spirits. Merlot defeated Rum in the grand final. Congratulations to the winning team, Aljo Tafford Phillips, Peter Fricke, Charmaine Williams and Tony Wilson defeated Stephan George, Michael Waters, David Sherrad Smith and Paul Iulianetti.

Our section had 4 Club Circuit, Ladies Cup Grade and 3 Masters sides competing for premierships and Brought home 3 flags. The premiership sides were:

Ladies Cup Grade: Belinda Murphy, Jill George, Glenyce Schumer, Leonie Girvan and Tracey Davis.

Club Circuit: C3 Mathew Jackson, Carlo Krizay,
Mike Carew, Michael Waters, Peter Anderson and
Carlo Di Tonto.

Masters Grade 13: Glenyce Schumer, Leonie Girvan, Kel Anderson, Sue Giliberto and Tracey Davis.

Congratulations to all these players and the players who were Runners-Up in the following sides:

Club Circuit: C2, B1 and A2
Masters Grade: 11 and 12

 

 

 

 

Mulgrave Country Club sporting facilities include three squash courts which are available to members and their guests.
The Squash Section runs pennant teams in a number of Melbourne based associations, offering a range of competition for men and women. There is also an inhouse "Super League" handicap competition which offers extra opportunities for all members to compete on a more informal basis.
