Play Indoor Bowls at Mulgrave Country Club
Important Reminder for 2017 Season
The final committee meeting for 2016 was held on 6th October when it was decided that it was necessary for the committee to meet as early as February 1st to plan for the 2017 season. The main reason for this very early meeting is that we have to register the number of pennant teams we wish to enter with South Group by a date very early in March.
Immediately after the February meeting a notice will appear in the alcove requesting members to register their intent to be available to play pennant. From this list the committee will decide how many teams to forward to South Group. Members who do not declare their intentions may well not be considered at a later date.
The indoor bowls season ended with the break-up lunch on August 23rd. It has been very successful with numbers attending the Tuesday sessions climbing above the 25 mark later in the season. We welcomed a number of new bowlers and hope that trend continues next year.
The competition front was not so great. It is probably not clear to members that your committee has to register the number of teams it wants to play pennant with South Group in early March each year. Not many players had nominated to do so in time. Thus only 2 teams were entered. By the time pennant started there were many more hopefuls and we could have entered 3 teams if they had nominated in time. By careful rotation our hardworking selection committee managed to give most players a game, please register early (February/March) to enable us to accommodate all wanting to play
Our Division 1 side struggled and did not manage to get into the finals. The Division 2 side fared better and hovered around 4th place all season, only to miss out on overall shot count.
The Annual Indoor Bowls Championships were held recently and the following are the Winners:
